137- THIS IS HOW IT WAS BEAUTIFIED FOR THOSE WHO WORSHIP PARTNERS BESIDES ALLAH TO KILL THEIR CHILDREN WHO ARE THEIR PARTNERS, WHICH LEADS TO THEIR DESTRUCTION, AND TO BEING MISLEAD IN FAITH, HAD ALLAH WILLED, THEY WOULD NOT HAVE DONE IT, THEN LEAVE THEM AND THE LIES THEY INVENT.

Some of the disbelievers used to kill their children fearing poverty.  Allah the Highest has forbidden this in other Ayahs saying:

“AND DO NOT KILL YOUR CHILDREN DUE TO POVERTY, WE PROVIDE FOR YOU AND THEM”.  (S: 6 A: 151)

And said: “AND DO NOT KILL YOUR CHILDREN OUT OF FEAR OF POVERTY, WE PROVIDE FOR THEM AND FOR YOU”.  (S: 17 A: 31)

Allah the Highest provides for us, therefore killing the children fearing poverty or due to poverty is a great sin.  As well as killing, being a great sin, killing one’s own children is even worse.

Before Islam, the Arabs used to be saddened by the birth of a girl and some of them will go as far as burying her in the sand.  Allah the Highest said:

“AND WHEN ONE OF THEM IS GIVEN THE NEWS OF A FEMALE, HIS FACE WILL BE BLACKENED WITH MISERY * AVOIDING TO BE SEEN BECAUSE OF HIS BAD NEWS, SHOULD HE KEEP HER HUMILIATINGLY, OR PUT HER IN THE SAND, WHAT THEY RULE IS EVIL INDEED”.  (S: 16 A: 58-59)

“AND WHEN THE GIRL BURIED IN THE SAND IS ASKED * FOR WHAT CRIME WAS SHE KILLED”.  (S: 81 A: 8-9)

They also killed baby daughters because of fear they will bring them shame and disgrace.  They however had mothers and sister and aunts they loved and respected.  How did they think life could continue without females?  The population can recover after losing males quicker than after losing females.

After wars, there are usually more females than males left in the society, as happened after the first and second world wars, and the population recovered.  It would have been very different if the loss was in females not males.

Although this act of killing female babies was not widely practiced in Arabia, yet Islam has terminated that wicked and abhorrent practice.
