140- HAVE CERTAINLY LOST A GREAT DEAL THOSE WHO KILLED THEIR CHILDREN OUT OF FEEBLE MINDEDNESS, AND WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE, AND HAVE FORBIDDEN FOR THEMSELVES ALLAH PROVIDED FOR THEM, INVENTING LIES CONCERNING ALLAH, THEY HAVE CERTAINLY LOST THEIR WAY AND WERE NOT RIGHTLY GUIDED.

Allah the Highest describes those who killed their children, who were mainly their daughters, to be feeble minded, and to have no knowledge.  Some Arab Idle worshippers at the time used to kill their baby daughters fearing dishonor and fearing poverty.

They did not think that life can not continue without females.

How did they manage to allow themselves to kill their own daughters?

We hear at present about the crimes of honour in Muslim countries.  If a Muslim man hears about his daughter or sister going out with men or if she becomes pregnant out of wedlock, she will be killed.  They consider that they restore their honour by such act, and can hold their heads high again between men.

This might be the case with people, but is certainly not the case with Allah the Highest.  The penalty for adultery for the unmarried, man or woman, is a hundred lashes.  It should be sentenced by the judge or governor and on the basis of four eyes witnesses, not rumours. 

A father or brother may guide, counsel, and help their female relatives, just as they should do with the male.  The sin is no greater for females than it is with males, the only difference is that in case of the female it is more likely to show through pregnancy and/or defloration of the hymen.  Allah the High treat them equally in this respect, for the sin is the same before him, and the penalty is the same.  Certainly for every adulterous, there has to be at least one adulterer.  Adultery is a sin which requires two people at least.

One is likely to achieve better results by dealing with such offence firmly but kindly in the mean time.
