Araf 8-9

8- WEIGHING THEN IS JUST AND TRUE, THOSE WHO WEIGH HEAVY ARE THE SUCCESSFUL.

9- AND THOSE WHO WEIGH LIGHT ARE THOSE WHO LOST THEMSELVES BECAUSE OF BEING WRONG IN DEALING WITH OUR AYAHS.

On the Day of Judgment, our deeds will be put on the scales then to be weighed.  How will our deeds be measured in weights, this is according to Allah’s scheme which we do not know.  However, we know that Allah the Highest will be Just and Precise.  Allah the Highest reassures us of that in many Ayahs of the Quran Saying:

“AND WE PUT DOWN THE JUST SCALES FOR THE DAY OF RESURRECTION, AND WE WILL NOT MISS AS MUCH AS A GRAIN OF MUSTARD FROM THE ACCOUNT”.  (S: 21 A: 47)

“ALLAH IS NOT UNJUST BY AS MUCH AS AN ATOM, AND WHEN A GOOD DEED IS DONE, IT WILL BE MULTIPLIED, AND WILL GIVE FROM HIS BOUNTY A GREAT REWARD”. (S: 4 A: 40)

“THOSE WHO WEIGH HEAVY ARE THE SUCCESSFUL * AND THOSE WHO WEIGH LIGHT WILL LIVE IN THE HELL-FIRE FOR ETERNITY”.  (S:23 A:102-103)

 “AS FOR THOSE WHO WEIGH LIGHT * THERE RESTING PLACE WILL BE FAR DOWN * AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW THIS IS * IT IS A BURNING FIRE”.  (S:101 A:6-11)

Our foremost and most important deed is the belief in Allah the Highest, one God with no partners.  Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “A man (on the Day of Resurrection) will have 99 records, each of them as long as he can see, they will be put on one side of the scales and on the other side a piece of paper with “There is no God other than Allah”.  He will say: My Lord, what is this paper compared to these records?  Allah will say to him: “You will not be unjustly treated”.  When the piece of paper is put down the records on the other side of the scales will fly up, for this paper is heavier”.  (Termezi: Eman)

Our wealth, shapes, power or size do not matter them, for Allah the Highest does not look at our shapes but our hearts: “Allah does not look at your looks and shapes but looks at your hearts, piety is here, piety is here, piety is here (pointing to his heart)”

And he said prayer and peace upon him: “A big fat man will then not weigh as much as the wing of a mosquito.  Then He recited “THEY WILL HAVE NO WEIGHT ON THE DAY OF RESURRECTION”.    (Bukhari: Tafseer)

All the means of measuring and estimating people that we hold in this life of their wealth, power, status etc will be of no value then, only our piety, for Allah the Highest said: “THE MOST HONOURABLE OF YOU BEFORE ALLAH IS THE MOST PIOUS”.  (S:49 A:13)

Allah’s messenger companion Abd Allah Ibn Masoud had thin legs, which other Muslims found amusing, Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said to them: “Are you amused by his thin legs, by He who has my soul in His Hand, in the scales, they are heavier than the mountain of Ohud”.  (Ahmed)

It is wise of every Muslim to look at people and value them according to their character and their piety, not their wealth, strength or power.
