Araf 31

31- O CHILDREN OF ADAM, DRESS DECENTLY FOR EACH AND EVERY MOSQUE, EAT AND DRINK BUT NOT EXCESSIVELY, FOR ALLAH DOES NOT LOVE THE EXTRAVEGANT.

Allah the Highest commands the Muslim men and women to dress decently when going to any mosque.  Indeed to try to dress with clean and good cloths if possible.  Dressing decently involves at least the parts which should be covered which are; for men, from  the umbilicus to the knees, and for women all the body except the hands and face.  It does not matter whether one is praying alone on in company with others.  Men may cover more of their body if they have the cloths.

Then Allah the Highest commands us to be moderate in our eating and drinking.

Extravegance and showing off are bad characters in a person and Allah the Highest does not accept the good deeds that are done for the sake of showing generosity or bravery or piety etc.  Indeed Allah the Highest descripes His righteous slaves as: “THOSE WHO WHEN THEY SPEND, THEY DO NOT OVERSPEND AND ARE NOT MISERLY, BUT HOLD A PLACE IN BETWEEN”. (S:25 A:67)

Allah the Highest likes us to enjoy the bounties he has given us.  Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “Eat, drink and dress without being excessive of showy, for Allah likes to see the evidence of His bounty showing on his slaves”.  (Nesae & Ibn Magah)

And he also said prayer and peace upon him: “Eat, give charity and dress without excesses of show”.  (Nesae; Zakah & Ibn Magah; Lebas)

We know now that excessive eating and drinking leads to obesity which leads to many diseases such as high blood pressure, Diabetes, scelerosis of the blood vessels, blood clots, heart diseases, joint diseases, and many other conditions.  Therefore the excessive eating and drinking does not just affect us spiritually, but also physically,  and Allah the Highest wants the Muslim to be healthy in body, mind and spirit.  Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “The son of Adam does not fill a container worse than his, it is enouph for the son of Adam to have small meals to keep up his strength, and should he eat more, let a third of his stomach be for food, a third for drink, and a third for breathing”.  (Termezi & Nesae)

I am sure that we will all be much healthier if we follow these commands.
