Jun 4th, 2008 Al-Emran 18-20
18- ALLAH BEARS WITNESS THAT THERE IS NO GOD OTHER THAN HIM AND SO DO THE ANGELS AND THOSE OF KNOWLEDGE, STANDING FIRMLY FOR JUSTICE, THERE IS NO GOD OTHER THAN HIM, THE EXALTED IN POWER, THE MOST WISE. 19- THE RELIGION BEFORE ALLAH IS ISLAM, THOSE WHO WERE GIVEN THE BOOK BEFOREHAND DISAGREED BETWEEN THEM AFTER KNOWLEDGE CAME TO THEM, DUE TO THEIR INJUSTICE TO EACH OTHER. AS FOR THOSE WHO DISBELIEVE IN ALLAH’S AYAHS, ALLAH IS SWIFT IN RECKONING. 20- THEREFORE, IF THEY DISPUTE WITH YOU SAY: “I SUBMITTED MY FACE (SELF) TO ALLAH, AND SO DO THOSE WHO FOLLOW ME, AND SAY TO THOSE WHO WERE GIVEN THE BOOK AND THE UNLEARNED: “DO YOU SUBMIT YOURSELVES TO ALLAH?”. IF THEY SUBMIT, THEY ARE THEN ON THE RIGHT GUIDANCE, BUT IF THEY TURN AWAY, YOUR DUTY IS BUT TO DELIVER THE MESSAGE, AND ALLAH SEES EVERY THING HIS SLAVES DO.
- In Ayah 18 Allah the Highest states twice that “THERE IS NO GOD OTHER THAN HIM” No God other than Allah is the first and foremost article of Faith. It is therefore the testimony of the Angels and believers who have knowledge. In fact this testimony is enough knowledge for a person to change from the state of disbelief to belief. Associating partners with Allah is a sin Allah the Highest does not forgive, for He said: “ALLAH DOES NOT FORGIVE FOR PARTNERS TO BE WORSHIPED BESIDES HIM, AND FORGIVES EVERY THING ELSE FOR WHOM HE WILLS” (S: 4 A: 48) Allah’s messenger, prayer and peace upon him, said: “I bear witness that there is no god other than Allah and that I am His messenger. There is not a slave of Allah who meets Allah with these testimonies, not doubting them who will not gain entry to the Paradise” (M: Eman; 44) If this knowledge has this value, it is the supreme knowledge. - Allah the Highest says about Himself that He is “STANDING FIRMLY FOR JUSTICE” Allah the Highest is just and one of the aims of Religion is to uphold justice on Earth, according to Allah’s Law not man’s law. Allah’s Law is the right scales to judge us. Allah the Highest said: “WE SENT DOWN OUR MESSENGERS WITH THE CLEAR SIGNS, AND WE SENT WITH THEM THE BOOK AND SCALES, IN ORDER FOR PEOPLE TO UPHOLD JUSTICE” (A: 57 A: 25) Whether we uphold justice in this life or not Allah the Highest will uphold justice between people on the Day of Resurrection. It is then that we will see the just recompense for our deeds. Allah the Highest said: “AND WE PUT THE JUST SCALES FOR THE DAY OF RESURRECTION, SO THAT NO SOUL WILL SUFFER ANY INJUSTICE, EVEN AS MUCH AS A GRAIN OF MUSTARD WILL BE BROUGHT, INDEED WE ARE SUFFICIENT TO ACCOUNT” (S:21 A:47) Fortunately for us, Allah’s Mercy will be overriding on the Day of Resurrection. Allah’s messenger, prayer and peace upon him, said: “When Allah created the Heavens and the Earth, He wrote in His book he kept with Him, what is an obligation upon Himself: ‘My Mercy overcomes My Anger’ (B: Tawheed; 15 & M: Tawbah; 14-16 & Ma: Janah; 22 & A: 2; 242,258) Some might wonder that as long as Allah the Highest is just, why does he allow all the injustices in this world to continue? 1- Our life on Earth is a time for trial and testing, nor recompense. Upholding and standing for justice is part of the trial and test. 2- Our life on Earth is very brief compared to the Hereafter which is eternal, and compared to a Day of Allah’s days which equals a thousand years of ours “A DAY OF YOUR LORD’S IS EQUAL TO A THOUSAND YEARS OF YOUR RECKONING” (S: 22 A: 47) Life of 70 or 80 years is just a short trial and test, the outcome of which will determine our destination in the Hereafter.
- Allah the Highest describes himself as “THE EXALTED IN POWER, THE MOST WISE”. Meaning that Allah’s Power is beyond and overcomes every other power, in the mean time Allah uses His Power firmly and not unjustly, not like human beings when they have power. This is Allah’s Character, Thanks to Him, His power is tempered by His Wisdom as well as His Mercy.
- The Religion Allah the Highest accepts is Islam, which is submission to Allah the Highest and His Will. It is the Religion of all the Prophets and Messengers and their true followers since Adam, peace upon him, and ending with Mohamed, prayer and peace upon him and his true followers.
- Disbelieving in Islam and Mohamed, prayer and peace upon him, is being unjust to one’s self and those one is responsible for.
- When the time of Reckoning comes, the Reckoning when we will see a precise account of our deeds will be Swift as well as Just.
