Jun 29th, 2008 Al-Emran 69-74
69- A GROUP OF THOSE WHO WERE GIVEN THE BOOK WISH TO MISGUIDE YOU, THEY BUT MISGUIDE THEMSELVES, BUT THEY DO NOT REALIZE IT. 70- O PEOPLE OF THE BOOK, WHY DO YOU DISBELIEVE IN ALLAH’S AYAHS, WHEN YOU BEAR WITNESS THAT IT IS THE TRUTH. 71- O PEOPLE OF THE BOOK, WHY DO YOU CONFOUND THE TRUTH WITH FALSEHOOD, AND CONCEAL THE TRUTH KNOWINGLY. 72- AND A GROUP OF THE PEOPLE OF THE BOOK SAID: “BELIEVE IN WHAT WAS SENT DOWN ON THOSE WHO BELIEVE BY DAYTIME AND DISBELIEVE BY NIGHT TIME, SO THAT THEY MAY TURN AWAY FROM THEIR FAITH” 73- “AND DO NOT BELIEVE EXCEPT FOR THOSE WHO FOLLOW YOUR FAITH”. SAY: “THE GUIDANCE OF ALLAH IS THE RIGHT GUIDANCE. SHOULD ALLAH SOMEONE THE LIKE OF WHAT HE HAS GIVEN YOU, OR THAT THEY OVERCOME YOUR ARGUMENT BEFORE YOUR LORD, SAY: ‘ALLAH HAS THE BOUNTY IN HIS HAND, HE GIVES TO WHOM HE WILLS, AND ALLAH IS ALL EMBRACING AND MOST WISE’ 74- HE CHOOSES FOR HIS MERCY WHOEVER HE WILL, FOR ALLAH HAS THE GREATEST BOUNTIES.
These Ayahs start with a warning to the Muslims; Allah the Highest is warning us that some of the People of the Book will try to misguide us to turn away from our faith. Doing this is leading them further away from Allah’s Path. They are then carrying on in their misguidance, and acquiring the sins of those they may misguide as well as their own. Spending the same time and effort, trying to understand Allah’s word and guidance, is better for them. Muslims ask Allah the Highest in their Salah, at least 17 times daily in Sorah Al-Fateha, to guide us to his straight path “GUIDE US TO THE STRAIGHT PATH * THE PATH OF THOSE UPON WHOM YOU BESTOWED YOUR BOUNTY, NEITHER THOSE WHO INCUR YOUR WROTH, NOR THOSE WHO ARE GOING ASTRAY” (S:1 A:6-7)
They know that the word and message sent to Mohamed prayer and peace upon him is truly from Allah, and that he is Allah’s messenger. They expected him, and Allah the Highest will be asking them about this on the Day of Resurrection, for He said: “O PEOPLE OF THE BOOK, OUR MESSENGER CAME TO YOU AFTER A PERIOD WHEN THERE WERE NO MESSENGERS, LEST YOU SAY: ‘WE HAD NO ONE TO GIVE US GOOD NEWS OR WARN US’, NOW A PERSON WHO BEARS GLADE TIDINGS AND WARNS CAME TO YOU, AND ALLAH HAS POWER OVER EVERY THING”. (S: 5 A: 19)
No one of mankind can argue with Allah the Highest. After sending messengers with His word, no one will be able to plead to Him on the grounds that one did not know, and then every person will have to face the consequences of their actions. Allah the Highest said: “MESSENGERS BEARERS OF GLADE TIDINGS AND WARNING PEOPLE, IN ORDER THAT PEOPLE SHOULD NOT HAVE A PLEA OR CLAIM WITH ALLAH AFTER THESE MESSENGERS HAVE BEEN SENT, FOR ALLAH IS EXALTED IN POWER AND MOST WISE”. (S: 4 A: 65)
On of the ways of cheating people, and selling false ideas to people is to “CONFOUND THE TRUTH WITH FALSEHOOD, AND CONCEAL THE TRUTH”. Finding some of what a person says to be true, makes it easier for people to believe the false part, then covering up the bulk of the truth.
The people of the book claimed that the prophet they are waiting for should descend from the line of Isaac, not of Ishmael peace upon them both. No is not such statement in their books. They mislead mostly their own people and themselves. Allah the Highest gives His bounties to whoever He wills, and it is not restricted.
“BELIEVE IN WHAT WAS SENT DOWN ON THOSE WHO BELIEVE BY DAYTIME AND DISBELIEVE BY NIGHT TIME, SO THAT THEY MAY TURN AWAY FROM THEIR FAITH” A second scheme to mislead people was to pretend to believe by day time then disbelieve by night time, pretending to have found a great deal wrong about Islam. This way they hoped to plant the seeds of doubt in the Muslim’s minds.
This method of persuasion is used at present; that is to pretend to agree with people who differ with you, to gain their confidence and trust. They will be more receptive to one’s ideas. Then one tries to give them the ideas one intended to give them in the first place, or make them doubt their own ideas.
The leaders of the people of the book told their people not to believe any one who does not follow their faith. That is not to follow the prophet and messenger who carry Allah’s word, the Quran, for them. They also told them not to believe that any one except them, God’s favourite nation, can receive God’s book, guidance; also not to believe that a prophet may come from another nation. They thought that all prophets should be from the line of Isaac peace upon him. Allah the Highest answers their claims saying: ‘ALLAH HAS THE BOUNTY IN HIS HAND, HE GIVES TO WHOM HE WILLS, AND ALLAH IS ALL EMBRACING AND MOST WISE’ The greatest bounty man can have are the bounties of Faith, Guidance and Wisdom. They lead to Allah’s Pleasure and Paradise. There is no limit or restriction or monopoly on Allah’s bounties, Allah gives whom he chooses and wills.
It is not right for a believer to feel envy because of bounties Allah the Highest has given others. A believer should feel grateful for the bounties he was given and pleased for others to have Allah’s bounties.
It is also a sign of arrogance and pride to feel that no one else is entitled to have the bounties one was given from Allah the Highest.
