Jul 7th, 2008 Al-Emran 86-91
86- HOW WOULD ALLAH GUIDE PEOPLE WHO DISBELIEVED AFTER HAVING BELIEVED AND TESTIFIED THAT THE MESSENGER IS A TRUE ONE, AND AFTER THE CLEAR SIGNS HAVE COME TO THEM, FOR ALLAH DOES NOT GUIDE THE TRANSGRESSORS. 87- THEIR RECOMPENSE IS THE CURSE OF ALLAH, THE ANGELS, AND ALL MANKIND. 88- ABIDING IN IT (THE FIRE) FOREVER, NEITHER WILL THEIR PUNISHMENT BE LIGHTENED NOR WILL THEY BE REPRIEVED. 89- EXCEPT FOR THOSE WHO REPENT AFTER THAT (DISBELIEVING) AND MAKE MENDS, VERILY ALLAH IS MOST FORGIVING AND MOST MERCIFUL. 90- THOSE WHO DISBELIEVED, AFTER HAVING BELIEVED, AND THEN INCREASE IN THEIR DISBELIEVE, THEIR REPENTANCE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED, THEY ARE THOSE WHO HAVE FAR ASTRAY. 91- THOSE WHO DISBELIEVE AFTER THEY HAVE BELIEVED AND DIED AS DISBELIEVERS, THE EARTH FULL OF GOLD WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FROM THEM IF OFFERED FOR RANSOM. THEY WILL HAVE PAINFUL PUNISHMENT AND WILL HAVE NO SUPPORTERS. These Ayahs have rules concerning those who disbelieved after having believed. It is reported that twelve men of the Ansar (supporters) the Arabs of Medina, who received and supported Allah’s messenger, prayer and peace upon him, and the migrants from Makah, they disbelieved after having believed. They left Medina and went to live with disbelievers in various parts of Arabia. These Ayahs were sent about them. A Muslim man went to tell one of the twelve men, called Al-Hareth Ibn Sowaid about these Ayahs, Al-Hareth said to him:”I know you to be truthful, and Allah’s messenger is more truthful than you, and Allah is the most truthful of the three”. Then he repented and embraced Islam again, and went back to Medina”. (N: Tahreem; 14 & Ibn Haban) These Ayahs were also meant for the Jews in Medina, who recognized and knew Mohamed, prayer and peace upon him, to be Allah’s messenger. After being sure of who and what he was, they disbelieved. These Ayahs are also for any Muslim who changes their faith and beliefs because it gains them an advantage or benefit. Some may have phases of great doubt about their faith and they might speak out about it. This may cause them to stop praying, fasting and worshipping in general. When they talk about this, they may also cast some doubt in others hearts. When they repent and come back to the faith, it does not mean that the effect they have had on others will also go. The penalty of the curse of Allah, the angels and all mankind, is a terrible one. This curse and abiding in the Hell-Fire forever, shows that to disbelieve after having believed is a terrible sin. Yet Allah the Highest is very Merciful and Forgiving. Those who repent and make amends for the wrong they did are forgiven. Making amends is a sign of the sincerity of their repentance and genuine regret for the wrong done. Allah the Highest does not accept the repentance of those who wait until the last moment to repent, meaning when death is eminent and certain within minutes. Allah the Highest said: “REPENTANCE IS NOT FOR THOSE WHO DO EVIL, UNTIL WHEN DEATH COMES TO ONE OF THEM HE SAYS: ‘NOW I REPENT’, NOR FOR THOSE WHO DIED WHILE THEY ARE DISBELIEVERS, FOR THEM WE PREPARED A PAINFUL PUNISHMENT”. (S: 4 A: 18) Allah’s messenger, prayer and peace upon him, said: “Allah accepts the repentance of his slave, unless he reaches the moment when his throat bubbles (just before dying)”. (T: Dawat; 98 & Ma: Zohd; 30 & A: 2; 132,153) One the Day of Resurrection, it is too late to repent, for Allah the Highest said: “WILL THEY WAIT UNTIL THE ANGELS COME TO THEM, OR YOUR LORD COMES OR SOME OF YOUR LORD’S SIGNS COME, THE DAY WHEN SOME OF YOUR LORD’S SIGNS COME, NO SOUL WILL BENEFIT FROM IT’S BELIEVE IF IT DID NOT BELIEVE BEFOREHAND OR EARNED SOMETHING GOOD IN IT’S BELIEF. SAY: ‘WAIT, WE TOO ARE WAITING’”. (S: 6 A: 158) And Allah’s messenger, prayer and peace upon, him said: “Allah made a gate in the west (in the heavens) its width is seventy years travelling, and it is for repentance. It does not shut until the sun rises from its side (the west). This is the meaning of Allah the Exalted in Power, the Majestic saying: ‘NO SOUL WILL BENEFIT FROM IT’S BELIEVE IF IT DID NOT BELIEVE BEFOREHAND OR EARNED SOMETHING GOOD IN IT’S BELIEF. SAY: ‘WAIT, WE TOO ARE WAITING’. (T: Dawat; 98) As for those who disbelieve after having believed, and die as disbelievers, they did not repent and therefore are not forgiven. On the day of Resurrection, no one can help them, no intercession allowed, and no ransom accepted from them. Allah the Highest spoke about the Day of Resurrection: “AND GUARD YOURSELVES FROM A DAY WHEN NO SOUL SHALL AVAIL ANOTHER, NEITHER WILL INTERCESSION BE ACCEPTED FROM THEM, NOR SHALL RANSOM BE TAKEN FROM THEM, NOR WILL THEY BE HELPED” (S: 2 A: 48) Allah’s messenger, prayer and peace upon him, said: “On the Day of Resurrection the disbeliever will be brought and told: ‘If you have as much as the Earth full of gold, will you ransom yourself with it?’ He will say: ‘Yes’, he will be told: ‘But you have been asked for less’. (B: Reqaq; 49 & Monafeqeen, 52 & a: 3; 213) The life on Earth, this life, is the time for deeds, including repentance, regret, or ransoming our sins. Allah the Highest allows us to ransom some of our sins in this life, we can do this by charity, feeding or clothing the poor, and as a penance for our souls, for Allah the Highest has every thing in the Heavens and Earth and does not need our ransom. Allah’s messenger, prayer and peace upon him, said that Allah the Highest said: “O my slaves, if the early people of you and the later people of you, the human and the jinn of you, gathered in one place and each asked for what they desire, and I gave each of them what they asked for, this will not decrease my Kingdom by more than what needle takes our of the sea when immersed in it and taken out”. (B: Ber; 55) The time of repentance and performing penance and ransoming our sins is in this life only, and before death arrives and becomes moments away.
