Jul 9th, 2008 Al-Emran 93-95
93- ALL THE FOOD WAS LAWFUL FOR THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL, EXCEPT WHAT ISRAEL HAS FORBIDDEN FOR HIMSELF BEFORE THE TORAH WAS SENT DOWN. SAY: “BRING THE TORAH AND READ IT IF YOU ARE TRUTHFUL”. 94- WHOEVER INVENTS A LIE AND ATTRIBUTES IT TO ALLAH AFTER THIS, THEY ARE THE UNJUST INDEED. 95- SAY: “ALLAH SAYS THE TRUTH, SO FOLLOW THE RELIGION OF IBRAHIM WHO IS PURE IN FAITH, AND WAS NOT OF THOSE WHO JOIN PARTNERS WITH GOD”. The Jews of the Medina said to the Muslims that they do not follow Allah’s faith throughout all the prophets and messengers as the as the Muslims say. They used as evidence that the Muslims eat the flesh of the Camel and drink its milk, which is forbidden to them It is reported that a group of Jews went to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him and said: “Aba-Al-Qasim, we shall ask you about three things, only a prophet will know”. Of the three things they asked about was “which of the foods did Israel (Jacob) forbid for him to have before the Torah was sent down?” Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “By Allah who sent the Torah down on Musa (Moses), did you not know that Israel was very ill, and after being ill for a long time, he made a Nazr (promise) with Allah that when Allah heals him, he will forbid for himself the food and drink he likes most. He liked the camel’s meet most and of the drinks, it’s milk”. (A: 1; 273,278) Jacob lived long time before Moses peace upon them, therefore this prohibition was not in the Torah sent down to Moses, as it was a personal and private covenant from Jacob peace upon him to Allah the Highest. Jacob’s Children carried on with these prohibitions and so did their children and followers. Allah the Highest tells us in the Quran that the Children of Israel were forbidden other things as a punishment for their transgression and disobedience. Allah the Highest said: “FOR THOSE WHO ARE JEWS WE HAVE FORBIDDEN EVERY ANIMAL WITH UNDIVIDED HOOF, AND OF THE CATTLE AND SHEEP WE HAVE FORBIDDEN IT’S FATE EXCEPT WHAT IS ON IT’S BACK, AROUND THEIR INTESTINES AND WHAT IS MIXED WITH BONE. WE RECOMPENSED THEM WITH THIS FOR THEIR TRANSGRESSION. WE ARE TRUTHFUL INDEED”. (S: 6 A: 14) It is clear from these Ayahs that these prohibitions were punishment for them, therefore did not apply to mankind or all the believers. It is not in the Torah, nor in the Quran. Allah the Highest then challenges them to look at the Torah and read is to see if there are such prohibitions. As Islam is the religion of Allah the Highest since Adam peace upon him until now, we would have had such prohibition if it was one of Allah’s prohibitions.
