124- WHEN ALLAH SAID TO THE BELIEVERS: “IS IT NOT ENOUGH THAT ALLAH ENFORCES YOU WITH THREE THOUSAND OF THE ANGELS SENT DOWN”.
125- “INDEED, IF YOU ARE PATIENT AND PIOUS, AND THEY ATTACK YOU SUDDENLY, YOUR LORD WILL ENFORCE YOU WITH FIVE THOUSANDS OF BRANDED ANGELS”
126- ALLAH MADE THIS GOOD NEWS FOR YOU AND COMFORT FOR YOUR HEART, AND VICTORY COMES ONLY FROM ALLAH, THE EXALTED IN POWER, THE WISE.
127- TO CUT OFF PART OF THE DISBELIEVERS OR DEFEAT THEM, IN ORDER FOR THEM TO TURN BACK HUMILIATED.
Allah the Highest is making a comparison between His support for the Muslims in the battle of Badr, and Ohud. In the battle of Badr, Allah the Highest enforced the Muslim army with a thousand angels initially, Allah the Highest said: “WHEN YOU PLEADED TO YOUR LORD FOR ASSISTANCE AND HE ANSWERED YOU: “I WILL ENFORCE YOU WITH A THOUSAND OF THE ANGELS IN LINE AND IN SUCCESSION”. (S: 8 A: 9)
Omar Ibn El-Khatab reported: “On the day of Badr, Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him looked to the disbelievers, and they were a thousand, then to his companions, and they were three hundred and nineteen. The prophet of Allah faced the Qibla, raised his hands and kept calling upon his lord: “Allah, I am asking you to fulfill your promise to me. Allah, I ask you to give me what you promised me. Allah, if this group of the people of Islam is to perish you will not be worshipped on Earth”. He kept calling upon his Lord, raising his hands and facing the Qibla, until his cloak fell off his shoulders. Abu Bakr went to him and said: “O prophet of Allah, enough pleading to your Lord, He will fulfill His promise to you”. Then Allah the Exalted in Power, the Majestic sent this down: “WHEN YOU PLEADED TO YOUR LORD FOR ASSISTANCE AND HE ANSWERED YOU: “I WILL ENFORCE YOU WITH A THOUSAND OF THE ANGELS IN LINE AND IN SUCCESSION”. (M: Jehad; 58)
Then Allah the Highest increased the number of the angels to three thousand as mentioned in Ayah 124. Then Allah the Highest promised a support of 5000 angels if the Muslims are to be attacked suddenly and by surprise.
The defeat in Ohud is a lesson for the Muslims, particularly when compared to the victory of Badr. In Badr, the Muslims were pious and obedient to Allah the Highest and His messenger, therefore had Allah’s support. Yet, In Ohud when they were disobedient and divided, they were deprived of Allah’s support, and were therefore defeated.
The battle of Badr was the only time the angels actually fought with the Muslims. In other times, they were a source of encouragement and morale support, but did not actually fight.
Allah the Highest tells us a very important fact; it is that victory comes only from Him. “AND VICTORY COMES ONLY FROM ALLAH, THE EXALTED IN POWER, THE WISE”.
Although we are commanded to prepare all possible force to protect ourselves, yet victory comes only from Allah the Highest. Without Allah’s support, the Muslims are left to their own devices. Allah’s covenant of support to us is conditioned by our Faith and behavior.
Allah the Highest uses the believers or any one or thing he desires to break up and humiliate the disbelievers. It is Allah’s policy to support the right against the wrong and the truth against falsehood. Allah the Highest said: “SAY: “THE TRUTH ARRIVED AND THE FALSEHOOD PERISHED, FOR THE FALSEHOOD IS BOUND TO PERISH”. (S: 17 A: 81)
Also said: “AND ALLAH WISHES TO ESTABLISH THE TRUTH WITH HIS WORDS AND CUT OFF THE ROOTS OF THE DISBELIEVERS * TO ESTABLISH THE TRUTH AND PROVE THE FALSEHOOD TO BE FALSE, EVEN THOUGH THE EVIL-DOERS HATE IT”. (S: 8 A: 7, 8)
This is a promise from Allah the Highest of victory of the truth over the falsehood. We have to follow Allah’s Faith and Commands if we are to succeed in this life and the Hereafter. Whenever we face defeat from the disbelievers, we should ask ourselves as to what we are doing wrong, and how are we displeasing Allah the Highest to abandon our support.
