146- MANY A PROPHET FOUGHT AND WITH HIM MANY GODLY PEOPLE, THEY DID NOT LOSS HEART BECAUSE OF WHAT BEFELL THEM IN THE CAUSE OF ALLAH, THEY DID NOT WEAKEN NOR GIVE IN, AND ALLAH LOVES THOSE WHO ARE PATIENT AND PERSEVERE.
147- BUT ALL THEY SAID WAS: “OUR LORD, FORGIVE US OUR SINS AND OUR EXCESSES, AND MAKE OUR FOOTHOLD FIRM, AND SUPPORT US AGAINST THE DISBELIEVING PEOPLE.
148- ALLAH GAVE THEM THE REWARDS OF THE LOWER LIFE AND THE EXCELLENT REWARD OF THE HEREAFTER, FOR ALLAH LOVES THOSE WHO DO GOOD AND ARE CHARITABLE.
Of the lessons to be learned from the Battle of Ohud, taught to the Muslims then and in all times. Many prophets and messengers fought in the cause of Allah, and with them many godly people. They are people who believe in Allah, obey His word, and fight in His cause.
Many of these godly people suffered and were afflicted in their struggle in the cause of Allah. This has to happen in any struggle, even if it does not involve actual fighting. People suffer financially, bodily and emotionally. This did not cause them to loss heart or weaken their resolve. They were patient and persevered in their struggle for their faith, knowing that support will come from Allah the Highest eventually, and that they will be rewarded by the Paradise.
Their only fear would be that they suffer because of their sins and excesses displeasing Allah the Highest hence they ask Allah for forgiveness, support and to give them victory against the disbelievers. We should note that they ask for forgiveness first of all and before any thing else. Then Allah the Highest responds, granting them the reward of this lower life for their struggle as well as the excellent reward of the Hereafter.
Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him used to say in his Dawa: “O Allah, I beg you to forgive me my sins, ignorance and excesses, and other things you know better than me”. (M:Zekr and Dawa;70)
Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him also said: “Allah guarantees for whoever fights in the cause of Allah, leaving his home for nothing other than fighting in the cause of Allah and believing in his words, that He will grant him entry to Paradise, or to return to his home with what he earned of the reward (from Allah) and the bounty of war”. (B:Tawheed;28 & M:Emarah;104 & N:Jihad;14 & Ma:Jihad;1 & Mal:Jihad,2)
Then Allah the Highest says: “FOR ALLAH LOVES THOSE WHO DO GOOD AND ARE CHARITABLE”.
The ultimate reward for a human being is to gain Allah’s Love, which is also a great status. This is gained through being good and charitable in the cause of Allah as well as in all aspects of life, such as worship, dealing with people in every day life.
