160- SHOULD ALLAH SUPPORTS YOU, NO ONE CAN DEFEAT YOU; BUT IF HE ABANDONS YOU, NO ONE CAN SUPPORT YOU AFTER HIM, AND IN ALLAH THE BELIEVERS SHOULD PUT THEIR TRUST.

This is a great statement and commitment from Allah the Highest to the Muslims, and in the mean time a warning we should always remember.  It is a further explanation of the same principle stated in Ayah 126 of Sorah Al-Emran saying: “VICTORY COMES ONLY FROM ALLAH, THE EXALTED IN POWER, THE WISE”

It is very clear from this who should we seek to support us.

This support is conditioned however, and this was clear from the battle of Ohud.  The Muslims had Allah’s support as long as they obey Allah the Highest and His messenger prayer and peace upon him.  Once we disobey, we lose Allah’s support and without it we can not win.  Men and arms are not enough for the Muslims to win just wars, but they have to have Allah the Highest on their side.  Allah the Highest said: “O PROPHET, ENTHUSE THE BELIEVERS TO FIGHT, FOR IF THERE ARE TWENTY OF YOU PATIENT AND PERSEVERING, THEY WILL DEFEAT TWO HUNDRED, AND IF THERE IS A HUNDRED OF YOU, THEY WILL DEFEAT A THOUSAND OF THE DISBELIEVER, FOR THEY ARE PEOPLE WITH NO UNDERSTANDING * NOW ALLAH EASED IT FOR YOU, FOR HE KNOWS THAT THERE IS SOME WEAKNESS IN YOU.  THEN IF THERE IS A HUNDRED OF YOU PATIENT AND PERSEVERING, THEY WILL DEFEAT TWO HUNDRED, AND IF THERE IS A THOUSAND THEY WILL DEFEAT TWO THOUSANDS WITH ALLAH’S PERMISSION, AND ALLAH IS WITH THOSE WHO ARE PATIENT AND PERSEVERING”.  (S: 8 A: 65-66)

The Muslims did not defeat the disbelievers in battles because of having larger numbers and being better equipped.  In Badr; 317 Muslims defeated 1000 disbeliever.  In Qadisyah 36000 Muslims defeated 200 thousand Persian soldiers.  In Yarmok; 30 thousand Muslims, defeated 250 thousands strong Roman army. The numbers were never the main factor, nor equipments etc, but the righteousness and obedience of the army to Allah the Highest and his messenger and the army’s resolve and determination.

This does not mean that we need not prepare and equip the Muslims armies except with Faith.  Indeed, Allah the Highest to prepare the strongest and best equipped armies in order to deter or fight our enemies saying: “AND PREPARE FOR THEM WHAT YOU CAN OF FORCE AND HORSES, TO STRIKE FEAR INTO THE ENEMIES OS ALLAH AND YOUR ENEMIES, AND OTHERS YOU DO NOT KNOW, BUT ALLAH KNOWS.  AND WHATEVER YOU SPEND IN THE CAUSE OF ALLAH, YOU WILL BE RECOMPENSED FOR, AND YOU WILL NOT BE UNJUSTLY TREATED”.  (S: 8 A: 60)

We should prepare our forces to protect us from those who might want to attack us, in the mean time this is not all the power we rely on.  We need Allah the Highest on our side always.
