164- ALLAH HAS BESTOWED HIS BOUNTY UPON THE BELIEVERS, SENDING THEM A MESSENGER FROM AMONGST THEM, TO RECITE HIS AYAHS TO THEM, PURIFY THEM, AND TO TEACH THEM THE BOOK AND THE WISDOM, FOR BEFOREHAND THEY WERE IN TOTAL MISGUIDANCE.

Allah the Highest is telling us that his prophet and messenger prayer and peace upon him is a great bounty Allah sent to us.  The special things about this bounty:

1-    This bounty is a messenger.  The messenger carries Allah’s message to people, therefore this bounty is in the form of guidance and spiritual and concerns faith.  It is very important for mankind, in the meantime no one else can give such guidance except Allah and His messenger.

2-    This messenger is from amongst us: meaning:

a-     He was one of the Arabs he was sent to, knows them, cares for them, speaks their language, and understands them, has the same background and traditions.  Just as Allah the Highest described him in another Ayah. “THERE HAS COME TO YOU A MESSENGER FROM AMONGST YOU, WHO GRIEVES FOR YOUR DISTRESS AND CARES FOR YOU, AND IS MOST KIND AND MERCIFUL TO THE BELIEVERS”. (S:9 A:128)

b-    The messenger is from amongst us being a human being.  In this sense, we can identify with him and follow his example.  Allah the Highest said: “SAY: ‘I AM BUT A HUMAN BEING LIKE YOU”.

 If Allah the Highest sent us an angel for a messenger, we would not have been able to identify with him or follow his example.  Allah the Highest said: “IF THERE WERE ANGELS WALKING ON EARTH, WE WOULD HAVE SENT THEM FROM THE HEAVENS AND ANGEL FOR A MESSENGER”.  (S:17 A:95)

3-    To recite Allah’s Ayahs to us:

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him received Allah’s Ayahs, and delivered them to mankind and clarified them to us.

4-    Purify us:

From the impurities and sins of disbelieving, for disbelieving is the worst sin.  Much worse even than the very bad sins like killing, dishonesty, adultery etc.

5-    Teaches us the Book:

Delivering, teaching and clarifying Allah’s book, the Quran, to people is of the great responsibilities of the messenger prayer and peace upon him.

6-    Teaches us the Wisdom;

The Wisdom includes all the teachings concerning our faith, life, piety, righteousness, which may or may not be in the Quran in detail.  Allah the Highest instructed us to learn and follow the teachings of His messenger prayer and peace upon him.  Allah the Highest said: “WHATEVER THE MESSENGER BRINGS YOU (OF KNOWLEDGE) TAKE IT AND WHATEVER HE FORBIDS YOU, BE FORBIDDEN” (S:59 A:7)

“HE WHO OBEYS THE MESSENGER, HE HAS OBEYED ALLAH”. (S:4 A:80)

We were sent this because we were in total misguidance.  Those who accept this bounty, and follow the messenger prayer and peace upon him, he has followed Allah’s guidance, and those who do not accept the bounty, they have gone astray.

We should always remember to express our thanks and gratitude to Allah the Highest for this great bounty.
