180- DO NOT LET THOSE WHO WITHHOLD WHAT ALLAH HAS GIVEN THEM OF HIS BOUNTY THAT IT IS GOOD FOR THEM, IT IS BAD FOR THEM, THEY WILL BE TIED WITH WHAT THEY WITHHELD ON THE DAY OF RESURRECTION, FOR ALLAH INHERITS ALL  THERE IS IN THE HEAVENS AND EARTH, AND ALLAH KNOWS WELL ALL YOU DO.

Allah the Highest is telling us that withholding money from being spent for good and righteous causes, does not do us any good.  It will bring us evil.  How we spent our money is one of the things will be asked about on the Day of Resurrection when we will be judged.  Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “A slave’s feet will not be moved on the Day of Resurrection before being asked about; his life and how he spent it, his knowledge and what he did with it, his wealth and how he earned and spent it, and his body how he ruined it”.  (T: Quiamah; 1)

“THEY WILL BE TIED WITH WHAT THEY WITHHELD ON THE DAY OF RESURRECTION”

This withheld money will be an enemy to them on the Day of Resurrection.  Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “Whoever Allah gives wealth and he does not pay its Zakah; it will appear to him on the Day of Resurrection as a fearless bald man with two black spots over his eyes.  He will hold him by his cheeks and say: ‘I am your money, I am your treasure’.  Then Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him recited the Ayah: ‘DO NOT LET THOSE WHO WITHHOLD WHAT ALLAH HAS GIVEN THEM OF HIS BOUNTY THAT IT IS GOOD FOR THEM, IT IS BAD FOR THEM …………….’  (B: Zakah; 3 & N: Zakah; 30 & A: 2; 98,355)

Allah the Highest tells us that He will punish those who withhold and treasure their money while it needs to be spent in the cause of Allah, and not even pay its Zakah saying: “THOSE WHO TREASURE GOLD AND SILVER AND DO NOT SPEND IT IN THE CAUSE OF ALLAH, TELL THEM THAT THEY WILL HAVE PAINFUL PUNISHMENT * ON THE DAY WHEN IT WILL BE HEATED IN THE FIRE OF THE HELL, AND THEIR FOREHEADS, SIDES AND BACK WILL BE BURNED WITH IT.  THIS IS WHAT YOU TREASURE FOR YOURSELVES, and THEN TASTE WHAT YOU TREASURED”.  (S: 9 A: 34-35)

Ibn Jarir Al-Tabari reported a Hadith of the same meaning as the Ayahs above regarding concerning those who withhold money from their blood relations and others in need.

This is such an evil end to those who withhold money from others and not even pay its Zakah. 

“FOR ALLAH INHERITS ALL THERE IS IN THE HEAVENS AND EARTH”

Nothing lasts in the Heavens and in the Earth, for every thing will perish Except Allah the Highest, and to every thing will as it has been and is, belong to Him.  Allah the Highest said: “EVERY THING ON IT WILL PERISH * AND ONLY YOUR LORD’S FACE WILL REMAIN, FULL OF MAJESTY AND GRACE”.  (S: 55 A: 55-56)

Any power, wealth, or property we may have, we are temporarily in charge of in this life.  It all belongs to Allah the Highest and we have temporary charge over it on Allah’s behalf and for a limited period only.  We are spending from Allah’s wealth, he made us temporarily in charge of, and later others will take charge of it.  Allah the Highest said: “AND SPEND FROM WHAT WE MADE YOU IN CHARGE OF, ON ALLAH’S BEHALF”.  (S: 57 A: 7)

“AND ALLAH KNOWS WELL ALL YOU DO”

Then Allah the Highest reminds us that all we do, and the intentions behind it, are all known to him.
