Sorah Al-Nesae
In the Name of Allah the Most Merciful, the Compassionate
1- O MANKIND, GUARD YOURSELVES FROM THE DISPLEASURE OF YOUR LORD WHO CREATED YOU FROM ONE SOUL, AND CREATED IT’S MATE FROM IT, AND FROM THEM SCATTERED MANY MEN AND WOMEN. GUARD YOURSELVES FROM THE DISPLEASURE OF ALLAH WITH WHOM NAME YOU PLEAD TO EACH OTHER, AND WITH YOUR BLOOD RELATION, FOR ALLAH SEES OVER ALL YOUR DEEDS.
There are a number of points in this Ayah:
1- It starts with the command to guard ourselves from Allah’s displeasure and to be pious. This command is repeated many times throughout the Quran.
2- Allah the Highest is addressing mankind, reminding us of the fact that we were all created from on soul, Adam’s. Allah the Highest created Eve from one of Adam’s ribs. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “Eve was created from a rib”. (B:Anbia;1 & M:Radaa;61,62 & Da:Nekah;35 & A:5;8)
This means that as all mankind is created from one father, them the same father and mother, then there is no reason for one to feel better than the other. Also we should all care and look after each other, as we are all related, and have the same origins.
It was reported: “While we were with Allah’s messenger at the day time, some people came. They were bare footed, scantly dressed, and carrying their swords. Most of them were from Madar, but all of them from Madar. Allah’s messenger’s face changed seeing their poverty. He went into his house, and then came out. Then he commanded Belal to do the Azan then the Eqamah. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him then stood up and preached, he said: “O MANKIND, GUARD YOURSELVES FROM THE DISPLEASURE OF YOUR LORD WHO CREATED YOU FROM ONE SOUL……………………..” “GUARD YOURSELVES FROM THE DISPLEASURE OF ALLAH AND LET EVERY SOUL SEE WHAT IT PROVIDED FOR THE COMING DAY (Day of Judgment)”. People began to give Sadaqah from gold pieces, silver pieces, cloths, measures of grain and measures of dates. A man from the Ansar came with a sac full which he almost could not carry, but he could not carry. People kept coming until there were two heaps of food and cloth. Allah’s messenger face lit up as if it was of gold, then he said: “He who cites a good example in Islam, he will have it’s reward and the reward of those who follow it, without decreasing anything from their reward, and he who cites a bad example in Islam, he will carry it’s sin and the sins of those who follow it, without decreasing any thing of their sins”. (M: Zakah; 69 & N: Zakah; 64 & A: 4; 359)
3- “GUARD YOURSELVES FROM THE DISPLEASURE OF ALLAH WITH WHOM NAME YOU PLEAD TO EACH OTHER”
We use Allah’s name to please to each other, or to make any oath. In fact we should never make an oath of any one else’s name, such as our family, parents, but only by Allah. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “He who makes an oath, let him make an oath by Allah or let him be silent”. (T: Nozor; 8 & A: 2; 7)
Indeed, making an oath by other than Allah’s name is like taking partners with Allah. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “Whoever makes an oath by other than Allah’s name, he has taken partners with Allah”. (T:Nozor;9 & N:Iman;4 & Ma:Kafarat;2 & Da:Nozor;6 & A:1;47 2;34)
4- “AND WITH YOUR BLOOD RELATION”
This is bleeding to each other through the bond of being blood relations, without swearing an oath. Allah the Highest likes us to honour the bond of blood relations. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “Whoever likes to be provided for with plenty; let him honour and maintain the bond with his blood relations”. (B: Adab; 12 & M: Ber; 20 & A: 3; 156)
Being good to blood relations is rewarded twice as much as to any one else. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “The charity to the poor is a charity, and to the blood relation is two, charity and honouring the blood relation”. (T: Zakah; 26 & a: 4; 18)
One should be good to his blood relations even if they dislike him, and for this the reward for the charity is greater. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him asked: “What is the best charity?” He said: “It is the charity to the blood relation who hides his dislike for you”. (A: 3; 402)
Breaking up relationship with a blood relation is a great sin which angers Allah the Highest. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said that Allah the Highest said: “Whoever honours his blood relations, I will honour him and whoever severs the bond with a blood relation, I will severe my relation with him”. ((B: Adab; 13 & a: 6; 62)
Allah the Highest does not answer the Dawa of a Muslim who asks for breaking up with a blood relation.
It is such a great sin to severe relations with blood relations that Allah the Highest bars the Muslim who does from entering Paradise. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “Does not enter Paradise, he who severs relations with blood relations”. (M: Ber; 18 & A: 2; 484, 3; 14)
One has to honour his/her blood relations even if they are not believers or Muslims. A good example of that was during the peace between the Muslims and Qurish, the mother of Asmaa the daughter of Abu Bakr, went to Medina to visit her, while the mother was still a disbeliever. Asmaa went to Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him and asked him: “My mother came to visit me while she is still a disbeliever, should I contact her and honour her?” Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “Yes, contact your mother and honour her”. (B: Heba; 29 & M: Zakah; 50 & D: Zakah; 34 & A: 6; 344)
5- “FOR ALLAH SEES OVER ALL YOUR DEEDS”
Allah the Highest is reminding the Muslims that He sees all their deeds and their intentions behind them. “NOTHING IS HIDDEN FROM ALLAH ON THE EARTH OR IN THE HEAVENS”. (S: 3 A: 4)
